I just finished another of Heyer's whodunits and enjoyed it very much! This is the classic set-up - a weekend party of guests in an English country estate, most of them bad-tempered and almost all of them with a reason for committing the crime at hand.
I rapidly dismissed the obvious choices, since I was sure anyone set up as a suspect too early wouldn't be the guilty person, and chose someone else who seemed innocent but could have had both motive and opportunity. Interestingly, Heyer managed to put in some twists and turns right up to the end, so that I was proven wrong. She is a skilled story-teller! The Inspector from Scotland Yard - Harding - is not one of those encountered in previous stories. As far as I recall, there is no tie-in to other books - though I don't know them all well enough to be quite sure. As usual there is a little love-story included, again something different than one would expect in a book of this kind. All in all, this was fun to read!
